Appointments

For non-urgent issues, please follow the guidelines below and choose the right service. An appointment may not be necessary.

This will help us to be more efficient by making an appointment available to you when you need it the most.

Book a Doctors' Appointment

We offer 15 minute surgery appointments with the doctor. Each doctor has their own consulting times. All routine appointments must be booked in advance. The patient care co-ordinator will ask you to give brief details of your illness to enable us to offer you the most appropriate appointment. In order to enable continuity of your care, we ask you to see one regular doctor wherever possible. Please remember to telephone and cancel your appointment if you no longer need it.

On arrival at the practice please give your name to the patient care co-ordinator. Please note that if you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment you will be asked to re-book. Alternatively upon arrival please use the patient check-in desk situated to the left of the main reception desk (which is signposted).

You can book an appointment via telephone on 01865 791850 or online with Patient Access.

We would ask that if you have an ongoing issue that has already been discussed, that you continue to see that GP so that you have continuity of care. If you have an urgent/acute issue then you may be added to the duty list and this may not be your usual GP.

In order to help further with availability and to ease booking appointments, please see below:

  • Appointments are opened 2 weeks in advance for all routine appointments with GP’s. Morning appointments are opened at 8:30am each morning, and afternoon appointments opened at 1:30pm. For example if you called on Monday 13th April for a morning appointment, we would offer you an appointment for Monday 27th April from 8:30am. If you needed an afternoon appointment, you would need to call at 1:30pm instead.

Please view our staff pages for each GP's availability

Telephone Appointments

We also offer telephone consultations, please ask the patient care co-ordinator if you would prefer this. These appointments may be useful to discuss test results, medications queries, or get advice when a face to face appointment is not necessary.

Emergency Appointments

If you feel that you need an emergency, same-day appointment, the patient care co-ordinator will put your name on the duty doctor’s list and the duty doctor will contact you to determine the best course of action with you. Please ensure that your phone is on hand.

Nurse Appointments

When booking an appointment with the practice nurse, it is helpful if you state your reason for seeing her so that we can book the appropriate amount of time. For example, a blood test, immunisations, or contraception appointment is 10 minutes long, but if you need a dressing, both ears syringed, a cervical smear, or to discuss your travel vaccinations we need to book you 20 minutes.

Chaperones

The consultation that takes place between the patient and their doctor is private and confidential. Quite often, an examination is required to help make a diagnosis. This may be straightforward, but sometimes can be more personal. If you feel you would like a chaperone to be present, you are very welcome to bring a friend or family member.

Failing this, on your request, we will do our best to find another member of staff to chaperone you, but if this is impractical, you may be asked to re-attend for examination when other arrangements can be made.

Sickness Certificates (Fit Notes)

You must give your employer a doctor's 'fit note' (sometimes called a 'sick note') if you've been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. If you feel that you need a doctor to visit you at home, you can help us by calling reception on 01865 791850 before 10:00am.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Why Do Our Patient Care Co-ordinators Need to Ask What’s Wrong with Me?

It is not a case of being nosey.

Our patient care co-ordinators are trained members of the practice team.  They have received training from our doctors to find out from patients why they are booking an appointment.

This is to make sure that you receive:

  • the most appropriate medical care,
  • from the most appropriate health professional that maybe quicker than waiting for a GP
  • at the most appropriate time.

They are asked to collect brief information from patients:

  • To help doctors prioritise house visits and phone calls.
  • To ensure that all patients receive the appropriate level of care.
  • To direct patients to see the nurse or other healthcare professionals where appropriate.

As with all members of the team, they are bound by confidentiality rules.

  • Any information given by you is treated as strictly confidential.
  • The Practice would take any breach of confidentiality very seriously and deal with it accordingly.
  • When attending in person, you can ask to speak to our patient care co-ordinators in private, away from the reception desk.
  • However if you feel an issue is very private and do not wish to say what this is then this will be respected.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
